Students at Ulster BOCES Hudson Valley Pathways Academy took on their second industry challenge. Each month, teams of students spend several days working on simulated cases for different business challenges hosted by different manufacturers. Representatives from Schatz Bearing Corporation, a ball bearing manufacturer in Poughkeepsie, presented students with a display board problem. Students then brainstormed and presented new display board plans to executives at Schatz.

I accidentally dropped the Hiwin linear guide carriage and some of the ball bearings just flew away. I decided to take it apart to service it and repack/replace it with ball bearings. The ball size for CA (standard accuracy, no preload) was about 3.16 or 3.165mm (my micrometer only reads to 0.01mm accuracy and I don't have a digital micrometer). It is very close to the 1/8th size ball bearing - 3.175mm. I'm guessing that the smaller size is for no preload and 3.175mm is for a pretty heavily preloaded carriage. It's for a cnc machine I'm building.
